In 1999, Hugo Jankowitz walked up a rickety, makeshift set of stairs on a rise above Nettleton Road. As he neared the top, he turned and was welcomed by a breathtaking view of Lion’s Head, Table Mountain, the 12 Apostles and the ocean. It dawned on him right then and there that this was the ideal place to build his dream house. He wanted something timeless, elegant and iconic; a hilltop residence with character. As time went on, and through his own love of travel, Hugo decided to share his home, art and views with other travellers who are also seeking what he normally seeks – something unique and luxurious, but with a personal touch. He poured his heart and soul into creating this remarkable home and now he’d love to share it with you.
"21 Nettleton is not a typical hotel. It’s a place that allows guests to feel at home and who often find themselves staying a little longer. Yes, it’s a quiet haven for the discerning traveller, but it’s also our patch of heaven suspended between ocean, mountain and African sky. And we can’t wait to share it with you."
In 2016, the house was carefully converted into a boutique hotel with five suites and a spectacular penthouse. Each room is individually appointed with bespoke art, antique furniture and luxurious soft furnishings – styled in a modern fashion. Closed to the public and accommodating only 12 guests, 21 Nettleton provides uninterrupted privacy and 5-star hotel service in a magnificent clifftop mansion – the epitome of elegance and luxury. For the ultimate celebration, the entire property can be enjoyed on an exclusive basis.
We strive to create inspiring moments that form a life-long impression. Our guests leave with memories of golden sunsets as the fading light catches the tops of the Twelve Apostles, the panoramic views of Clifton’s iconic beaches, outdoor massages under the wild strelitzia nestled in the giant granite boulders and our unique garden dinners under the stars of the southern hemisphere, while sipping a fine South African vintage.
